Clipboard processing

Klippster processes clipboard and Finder content locally on your Mac. It does not upload clipboard contents, conversion inputs, generated files, or clipboard history.

Clipboard History

History is disabled until you enable it, and Klippster treats a missing answer as “no”. Recorded items are stored locally in ~/Library/Application Support/Klippster/history; image and vector payloads live in sidecar files in the same folder. They are not uploaded and are not end-to-end encrypted. You control retention, exclusions, and deletion in Settings. Pasteboard items marked concealed or transient are always skipped, as are copies from the password managers on the built-in exclusion list, which you can extend.

Format Packs and updates

Browsing or installing a Format Pack requests the signed public registry and selected pack files from GitHub. Standard connection data such as IP address, timestamp, and user agent is processed by the hosting provider. Clipboard contents are not part of those requests. A pack receives only data you explicitly convert and has no Klippster host imports for network or filesystem access.

Website and purchases

This website and the licensing service run on our own server at Hetzner in Germany, which processes ordinary server and security logs. When purchases are enabled and you choose to buy Pro, Stripe processes checkout and payment data. Klippster receives the purchaser email, order identifier, payment state, and timestamp required to issue the license — not your billing address and not your card details, which stay with Stripe. Resend processes the purchaser email to deliver the license email.

When you download Klippster, we count the download: one number per app version and day, with nothing else attached — no IP address, no browser identification, and no cookie. A total kept this way cannot be traced back to you, by us or by anyone else.

Each time a license is delivered or activated, we record which license it was, when, and by which route. The requesting IP address and browser identification are recorded only as a keyed hash, so that repeated requests can be recognised as repeated without the address itself being stored. This exists to detect a single license being handed around, and for nothing else.

Licenses and activation

A Klippster Pro license is a signed file that the app verifies locally. It contains the purchaser email, order identifier, license identifier, issue date, license type, the number of Macs it covers, and the device code of the Mac it was issued for. Every license names a Mac, so the purchase email contains an activation link and key rather than a license file.

Activating a license contacts Klippster once, to register the Mac it is being used on. That request carries the license identifier and a device code: a salted hash derived from a macOS hardware identifier. Klippster does not receive or store your Mac's serial number. No clipboard content, file content, or usage data forms part of activation. After activation the app checks the license locally and does not contact a license server again — not at launch, and not on any schedule.

Activation can also be completed without that Mac being online: the app displays its device code, you enter the code on this website from any other device, and you download the resulting license file.

The device codes registered to a license are stored so that you can see and manage them, and so that one purchase is not shared without limit. You can release a Mac at any time from your license page.

Getting a copy, and getting rid of it

Sign in to your license page with the address you bought with — there is no password; we send a link. Under Your account you can do both of these yourself, without asking us:

• Download your data as a JSON file: your orders, your licenses, the Macs registered to them, and when each license was delivered.
• Erase your data. We remove your address, your name, the registered Macs and the sign-in links tied to you.

Two things about erasure, so that nothing about it is a surprise. It ends your license — Klippster Pro stops working on your Macs, and we will not be able to restore it or recognise you afterwards, because there will be nothing left to look you up by. And the sale itself stays: amount, tax, country and date, with nothing in it pointing at you. Austrian bookkeeping law requires those records for seven years, and they are the one thing we cannot remove on request.

Buying again later is fine. It simply starts a new customer, with no connection to the old one. Records held by Stripe follow Stripe’s own retention rules — ask them directly.

Your choices

• Keep Clipboard History disabled, change its limit, exclude apps, or clear it at any time.
• Do not install optional Format Packs.
• Activate a license without connecting that Mac, using the device code and this website.
• Release a registered Mac from your license at any time.
• Delete ~/Library/Application Support/Klippster to remove the clipboard history.
• Delete Klippster’s App Group container to remove packs, shared settings, and the imported license.
• Download or erase your purchase data yourself, from your license page.
